I have been a freelance photographer for 15 years. I started my career through a series of unpaid internships with established photographers and magazine publishers.
These internships were valuable in terms of learning the tricks of the trade and gaining practical experience in a diverse range of settings and types of work which include studio, portraiture, editorial, architecture, PR shoots etc as well providing me with an understanding of how the business works.
From this, I started to do small commissions for commercial work. My reputation began to build and my business developed via word of mouth.
In 2001 I acquired my first digital camera and, based on the IT skills I already had, I quickly learned the necessary skills in Photoshop and other related software which enabled me to take on the full range of commercial assignments.
My client list now includes a wide range of organisations, encompassing advertising and PR agencies, direct corporate clients, large and small, some of whom are household names.
Why I do photography: I like the simple pleasure of making photographs, I enjoy problem solving, it calls upon my creative and practical skills, no two days or jobs are alike, I get a buzz from working with different kinds of people on a daily basis, I get to see places and do things to which the general public don't have access.
